Abbey Road Studios is one of the oldest and most famous recording studios in the world. Opened in 1931, the studio consists of a group of buildings centered around a converted house on Abbey Road in London, England. The project was the brainchild of the Gramophone Company, which had merged with other companies to form Electrical and Musical Industries (EMI). The complex became known as a center for musical innovation with its “trademark” sound–which today is easily identifiable by audio professionals.

Despite the outstanding technical and innovative history surrounding the studio, Abbey Road is most famous for the artists who recorded there–most notably The Beatles, who named their Abbey Road album after the studio. The Beatles recorded almost all of their albums and singles there between 1962 and 1970, and again in July 1969.

Other notables include Pink Floyd, who recorded most of their late ’60s and mid ’70s albums there, including The Dark Side of the Moon, along with Cliff Richard, Al Stewart, Oasis, The Shadows and Elliot Smith among others
